SunnyCon 2015!

9th June 2015

SunnyCon fast approaches, and we’ll be there as usual with our comics, art, and more! I’ll be co-hosting the Yaoi & Yuri Creators Q&A with Tab Kimpton of Discord Comics – where we’ll be discussing a little of the history and culture behind Yaoi/Yuri as well as the kinds of tropes you see regularly in those genres. The panel is on the Saturday at 4pm and will be an 18+ only panel so there’ll be staff checking ID’s because we may talk about rude stuff.

As usual I’ll be joined by my no. 1 minion and life collaborator: and there is a rumour that Paul (the writer for The Editors) may be in attendance depending on shifts at work. Donna and I will be doing sketches throughout the day ranging from quick £2 angelKat caricatures and butt doodles, to £10 cartoon busts. I’ll also be accepting digital commission pre-orders over the weekend starting from as little as £5.

We’ll be at Table 40, and you can find us by checking out this handy map (we’re on the way to the crepes/food places so you have no excuse not to come and say hello!)

SunnyCon is hosted in the Pullman in Sunderland again this year – they’re moving venues for Chibi Sunny and next years show so this will be the last time we get to enjoy the beach view.

The dates this year are 26th – 28th June – Friday is VIP ticket holders only and the day where the artists will be setting up their tables (so sadly I probably won’t see much of you guys on Friday). Saturday and Sunday are packed full of fun things to do, awesome artists and traders, as well as gaming, talks, panels, guests ranging from voice actors to Uncle Kage. There are parties on Friday and Saturday evening with themed drinks and entertainment – probably going to need ID because of alcohol of course.

VIP and Saturday day tickets have all sold out already – so if you’d like to attend on Saturday the only tickets left are the full weekend tickets which are £25 and cover both days, or if you’d rather only attend on Sunday the day tickets are £15. Children under 12 years old go free. Due to the large demand for tickets and the capacity of the venue, there won’t be any tickets available on the door so make sure to book yours as soon as possible online and don’t leave it until the last minute!

We’ll be accepting card payments although I believe there are cash machines nearby (and there’s a Morrisons within a few minutes walk of the venue too if not).

The usual safety/etiquette stuff applies: no groping/hugging without express permission from the person in question, keep your valuables safe , ask before taking photos of people – their cosplay might be awesome but maybe they’re trying to browse/eat/rest and most cosplayers will want chance to pose for photos etc. Bring water and make sure to stay hydrated/fed throughout the day as it can get warm and you don’t want to get sick. Same goes for hygiene – I shouldn’t have to say this but conventions are warm and close packed places – showering isn’t optional. If you’re attending as a group, whilst SunnyCon isn’t massive it’s still possible to get separated so make sure you have phone numbers and have arranged a place to meet up if you can’t find each other. The most important thing is to have fun but do be safe and let others enjoy the event too!

Oh, and you’ll be able to get a copy of Sophira-Lou’s brand new art book “Life is a Carousel” over the weekend – the book is a series of centaur/carousel monster girl illustrations including guest art from myself and a few other artists too. I should also have prints available at the show of my contribution as will some of the other artists so that you can complete your collection!

We’ll be posting updates on Twitter and Instagram throughout the weekend, so make sure to follow us to keep up to date!

Hope to see you there!
