We follow the story of Marc as he is transported to a parallel world where Super Heroes not only exist but his counterpart is missing in action. Thus far we’ve seen legends come to life, several heroes and villains have stepped into and out of the spotlight and all of this adds up to an amazing story from a talented group of people.

You see, Union of Heroes is in a comic form that within the community is often given bad press. We’ve all seen the photocomics showing lego characters photographed at awkward angles with lighting that is abysmal at best, yes? Sadly that is what springs to most of our minds when the term “photo comic” comes up. The humble photocomic has finally come of age with this production simply in how cleanly and professionally the comic has been produced- not to mention the brilliant writing.

Arne Schulenberg’s work with Union of Heroes, an amazing cast of characters (and actors) as well as a very professional photographer have proved that this particular form can be produced well and there are gems there if we look hard enough. I can see Union of Heroes becoming a flag ship for this form, as well as reviving a dying breed of Super Hero comics that rarely seem to offer anything new since the golden age.

As for our heroes, we have met a few so far- though none stand out so much as Marc Ridbeck, Lynn the Eternal Victim and the mysterious One Who Knows. In this universe, due to a latent mutation caused by his grandfather drinking contaminated water during a mining accident Marc now has the ability to absorb and manipulate metals- and once he becomes fully trained this should be a distinct advantage over the foes that are already rallying against him. Sadly THIS Marc, is not the fabled Erzengel of the heroes universe so it may take some time for him to take up the mantle that this new world desperately needs.

Lynn is by far my favourite character in UoH, as the Eternal Victim she struggles to maintain a normal life whilst cursed to take the place of any innocent who dies at the hand of another. A tragic history with a possible hidden lineage makes her character intriguing and a great counterpoint to Marc’s slightly less worldly nature.

The only short coming in Union of Heroes (if there is any at all) would be in the occasional awkward English translation of dialogue. Arne does his best, and those who have been assisting with this have done a fantastic job but it does on rare occasion crop up. For a comic being produced in two languages simultaneously by one man- this is an amazing feat and one or two unusual wordings are to be expected though he always manages to get the point across.

All in all, despite my initial concerns when told a year ago “there’s this really cool photocomic”, this is one that I have bookmarked and always take the time to read the latest posts. If you like Super Heroes, Drama, even just witty comics with a great story… or for those of you who really just want to look at good looking people for a change lol. You can’t get much better than Union of Heroes- in my eyes it does what the American TV show Heroes is attempting to do, it redefines what a super hero is once more, and this time with a larger helping of classic lineage in the comic world. If you want something that makes Heroes look like an amateur attempt at making a great super hero story for a modern audience- check out Union of Heroes. You won’t be disappointed.

WAR! 2010 Evil Genius

Last year we watched on with amusement at the antics of these pathetic mice as they fought their futile battles. We saw them flex their muscles. We watched as they obliterated one another with minor spells for our amusement. As they clashed poorly-tempered steel in a desperate attempt to show which of them was the greatest.

We are of course referring to the Webcomic WAR! of 2009. Alas it returns. And this year they have called out for every Evil Genius the land of WEB has to offer… and so, the mighty Feran warlords of the Marucci line deign to come forth and battle these creatures who dare challenge us.

So it is time, to call our fellow FERANs to battle. We must rally our minions, construct the ultimate in battle automotons, forge the finest weapons and build the greatest defenses. It is time, my friends- for FERA to take its place as the greatest webcomic in this battle of wits, might and courage.

And what can you do to help make this happen? Our loyal followers, that is quite simple. In order to best our nemesis Amuletts of Epic Fail and the hordes of other webcomic would-be-victors in this glorious battle- we first require resources to construct our arsenal.

This is where you come in.

The following gains us resources in units known by the mysterious term “parts”. You must search out these “parts” by performing the following acts of bravery and dastardly cunning:

1) Plug and Link FERA any where you can (no trolling or spamming- we want to increase our minions not have our might crippled by moderators).

2) Write a review of FERA and post it on your blog, website etc.- any where you can muster.

3) Rate, review of subscribe/favourite FERA on any or all of the following:

9) Create some fanart to post on your online galleries and link it to us- let me know so that I can add it to our fanart gallery on the main site!

WAR! 2010 Evil Genius

Todays guest art was created by the one and only Arne Schulenberg of the best photocomic on the web- Union of Heroes.

There’s been a lot going on lately and there’s still so much left to come.

For those who are wondering- the Comic Creator’s Alliance managed to raise an amazing $10,000 thanks to every ones efforts- an amazing achievement for many reasons. That cash will go towards two very worthwhile organisations to help victims of human trafficking.

There are some major pieces of news regarding Fera specifically. Firstly we are nearing the end of chapter one, and in a couple of pages time our would-be heroes will begin their journey out into the big, bad world. To mark the occasion, once the final page is posted on the site I’ll begin the process of preparing the first chapter for print- it will form issue #1 of the comic and I plan to have it on sale both digitally and in print as soon as possible- and certainly in plenty of time for the convention we’re attending in July.

As a result of this, and a number of other contributing factors- once the final page of chapter one is posted we’re going to be hosting a guest art showcase. This is to give me time to prepare things for print, make preparations for chapter two of Fera and to move house.

During the guest art showcase instead of the usual comic updates we’ll be updating with guest comics and fan art created by you the readers, and generally by fans of Fera. We’ve already received a couple of great submissions and I’m really looking forward to sharing them with you. If you want to join in on the action and create some fan art for Fera or indeed a guest page/comic you’re more than welcome to. The current deadline for submissions for the showcase will be quite fluid for now, but in general on or before 22nd February would be ideal.

In other news… Fera now has a fanpage on Facebook and a Fan-Club-Group-Thingie on deviantArt. If you’re a fan of the comic come and join us, discuss the comic and any thing else for that matter. There are currently plans for contests that will appear only for fans on either or both of those pages so make sure you’re amongst them.

We’ve also recently been added to a new up and coming webcomic ranking-list (Comic Hovel)… and as of the moment I type this we are neck and neck for rank #2 – with your vote we could get to #1… if you’d like to vote for us please follow this elegantly crafted link.
