- Well in 1988, a few weeks before the final episode of 80 Days around the world was aired in the UK (on Childrens BBC)…
A childrens TV presenter named Andy Crane, Who spent far too much time in a broom cupboard with a puppet, decided that it’d be fun if everyone in the country sang along to the theme as it aired for the last time. At the time he offered to send the lyrics to anyone who sent a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the BBC. It surprised everyone when the then tiny CBBC dept. of the BBC was swamped with these envelopes.
So on 28th April 1988 a huge number of children and their parents across the UK sang along to the end theme of the show… and yes I would have been two years old at the time.
But ever since then, there’s been students across the country who still celebrate National Willy Fog Day in the same way. This year (2009) will mark the 21st “birthday” of the original and so I thought it’d be fun to do something in the webcomic community to celebrate this event.
Whats the plan?
- Originally I was just going to post my own little tribute to National Willy Fog Day on the main FERA archive, as a one off special- but I figured it might be great fun if others got involved too.
For my own- I plan to produce two images of members of the FERA cast in locations around the world, made to look like holiday “polaroid” snaps.
For example- Kato eating candy floss/cotton candy outside Blackpool tower in England… or perhaps outside the Houses of Parliament.
If you want to get involved simply post a holiday snapshot of one or more of your cast in a recognisable location on Earth some where on your site (either your archive or an art page perhaps). Be it Moscow, Rome, Egypt, England, America or any where else.
Once it’s uploaded send me the link and I’ll post a list of the links here for all to see. And maybe we can even produce one image that includes all of the snapshots (pinned to a board or something).
And don’t let that stop you- if you want to do another one, you’re welcome to submit as many as you like.
Remember though- it really should be up for 28th April 2009 (late entries will still be included on the list though).
Where do I send my link?
- Well you have two choices- either email me at: t_iii@angelk.at
OR send me a DM/tweet on twitter: http://twitter.com/t_iii
So if you want to get involved then come on in, the more the merrier- see if you can get anyone else involved too.
