Patrons Welcome!

First of all I’d like to say thank you to everyone for their patience of late. Fera updates have been delayed recently due to a family emergency/funeral but will be returning to update weekly again this week as I get back on top of everything. It’s been a difficult few weeks and both myself and Donna appreciate all of the support that friends, and indeed readers have given us.

Work is still on-going to complete Fera issue #3, as well as working on updating the artwork for Fera issue #1 which will be combined with the other two issues (plus extras) to form the first definitive Fera trade paperback. Our other projects are coming along nicely too, although my time is spread rather thinly at the moment as I need to prioritise my paid/freelance work, whilst juggling upcoming conventions etc.

As a result of the current situation I have not yet been able to get reprints made of Fera issue #2 and The Editors issue #1 in time for Newcastle Film and Comic Con in March, and I don’t currently have the funds to do so. I still have 10 copies of Fera issue #2 in stock (not counting the ones that were water damaged at my last convention in 2013), so it’s very possible that they’ll join The Editors issue #1 in being out of stock very quickly at NFCC.

Due to my current financial situation I will need to prioritise my paid/freelance work over working on comics more than usual (as much as I wish that wasn’t the case). But there is a way that you guys can help shift that in the other direction – so that I can produce more comics, and art content for you guys to enjoy! In fact there are a few ways, and some may even help me get new print runs of the books out faster too…

There are a few things mentioned in the “Books, Commissions, Prints, and more!” section below if you’re interested in buying comics, t-shirts, or having me sketch a butt for you (or whatever) but for this news post I want to talk to you about Patreon.

I’ve set up a campaign of my own on Patreon, initially as an experiment as I’ve never really done this kind of thing before, but I’m hoping that it’ll help not only with my financial situation, but also to encourage readers to interact more whilst giving you guys something extra in return. For those who don’t know, Patreon is a crowdsource platform for on-going projects like Fera, webcomics, and even YouTube creators. It’s simple – you pledge a certain amount as a Patron per month of updates, if I don’t update that month you don’t get charged and I don’t get paid.

Pledges can be as little as $1, that’s around 60p if you’re here in the UK. You can change your pledge, cancel it, and even add a monthly cap to it at any time so don’t worry about being stuck with it forever. In return, much like Kickstarter, Patrons get rewarded with goodies depending on how much they pledge PLUS even more goodies if/when I reach certain “stretch goals”. You also get regular bonus content that won’t be available elsewhere, with rewards already including art prints, our entire digital comics catalogue, commissions, and even a regular hang out online to chat, draw, and play a game or two on Steam.

If there are any rewards/extras that you’d like to see added to the campaign let me know, and I’ll see what I can do. This also applies to Patron-only content on the Patreon activity feed!

Convention News!

As of this moment I’m now confirmed as exhibiting at Dee Con aka “the con of many names” again this year. So in April, ten days before I become 28 years old, I’ll be trekking up to Dundee. I’ve exhibited at this event for the last three years and it’s always been a great one, so if you’re in Scotland and love animé and comics you should check it out.

As you all know I’m already booked for Newcastle Film & Comic Con, London MCM Comic Con, Sunny Con, and London Film & Comic Con this year, with plenty more to follow hopefully. As mentioned earlier my first event of 2014 will be in Newcastle next month – which is great for me as it’s local and there’s nothing quite like sleeping in your own bed.

Personally I’m really looking forward to Sunny Con this year as they’ve changed venue, with the Pullman now providing food/drink inside the event as well as being part-train. I’ll be running a workshop for those interested in making comics. Hopefully the weather will be better this year as we’re directly on the beach with what I hope will be summer weather. And of course I’m looking forward to possibly meeting Stan Lee at London Film & Comic Con in July, as I’m sure many of you are too.

Books, Commissions, Prints, and more!

Patreon is all well and good, but what if you just want to buy a one off thing? Well, as luck would have it I’m currently moving all of my books, art, and other stuff from Storenvy, over to Comicsy – because this way I can have digital and print content on sale in one place. The only exceptions right now are Clothing and Commissions. I’ll be moving the art prints across this week too.

I’m also offering to include “Sponsored Posts” on the angelKat website and my satellite sites (deviantArt/Facebook/Tumblr/etc) for a small fee. These can either be articles written by myself about your product/site/content – they will be marked as “Sponsored Post” OR added to the links page of the site under a Sponsors/Affiliates heading. I can even write content for your site too if you prefer – just contact me for details and a quote.

As for art commissions, I’m available to work on anything from a simple convention sketch to full comic projects. You can find more info in my Commission Guide which includes breakdowns of pricing from old commissions and art examples. For a tailored quote contact me and I can see what I can do.

If you can’t afford anything right now, remember that you can also help by spreading the word and telling your friends about Fera, The Editors, and angelKat Entertainment.
