Comic Creators For Freedom 2013: Great Success!

Before we get to the seasons greetings and angelKat Entertainment news, I’d just like to thank everyone who got involved and donated to the Comic Creators For Freedom drive this year. Every year you guys always come through and this year was no different. When the fund raising drive ended we had managed to not only raise our goal amount of $5,000 – but beat it to raise a total of $6,414 which will all go direct to Love146 to help with their after care services for child victims of human trafficking. And what better way to start the holiday season than with managing to help improve childrens lives.

Happy Holidays!

For those who are celebrating, or simply spending some time with their families this holiday season – I’d like to wish you all the best and hope that you have a great new year as well. Here at angelKat Entertainment HQ we’re looking forward to Christmas dinner and Doctor Who (because that and the company are the best parts of the holidays after all), whilst working furiously to get prepared for some new content for you guys and our convention appearances next year.

You may have noticed that we only have one show confirmed so far for next year, but don’t fear we will be filling up that calendar soon enough. Our first convention of 2014 should be Newcastle Film and Comic Con in March and we’ll let you guys know when it’s confirmed.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, we have a couple of “presents” for you this holiday season…

  • Fera fans can look forward to seeing the webcomic updates return next week, and there are big plans for the 5th anniversary in January. If you want to suggest anything for the anniversary feel free to get in touch!
  • We’ve finally launched our online store, so you can get yourself some goodies, from digital/print comics, or art prints, to t-shirts! We’ll be adding badges and other items that have been convention exclusive until now soon too. Just click the “Shop” button in the top menu!
  • And if you just can’t wait, you can get both issues of Fera and the debut issue of The Editors in digital form for as little as £4.50 or…
  • … If you’re one of the first five to purchase either of the issue #1’s of those titles, you can use these links (Fera #1 | The Editors #1) to get them completely free!
  • I’m also taking art commissions and you can read all about it in our finely crafted Commission Guide!

Santa Came Early For Us Too!

Our awesome comic creating friends from the Comic Village Alliance (creators from the UK convention circuit), and United Webcomics (a lovely mix of artists from around the world) have gifted us with Secret Santa artwork! Both so fantastic that I have to share them with you guys.

Non-angelKat Stuff

As some of you may already know I’m also contracted to two other companies that may be of interest to some of you. The first is the Digital Manga Guild who license and translate manga which is hard work but great fun. I currently letter manga for them, with the title I’m currently working on being due for publication in February but you should check out their shop for their other titles, as in the New Year they’ll be releasing English translations of Osamu Tezuka titles that have never been released in English before, so if you’re a manga fan you should check them out on emanga so that you can grab a copy of those as soon as possible. I also handle sales and promotion for LK Photography, a local photography and videography firm who cover anything from weddings, conventions, music events, to classic portraits and modelling shoots. They even do cosplay photo shoots on location which along with their slow motion video booths are really good fun. So if you’re in the UK and looking for a photographer or something related get in touch with me and I’ll see what I can arrange for you. You can find some portfolio pieces on their Facebook Page.

Plans For 2014!

We have a lot of plans for 2014, and I’ll be posting more details in our new years day update. We’ll be adding more articles, reviews, artist showcase, and perhaps adding a few new comic titles to the website. Paul is working on scripts for the next issue of The Editors, whilst I work on comic pages for Fera, and a number of other upcoming titles, and Donna works on bringing Offices & Accountants to life. I’ve also teamed up with the lovely Anna Sheldrick for a sci-fi comic: she’s also releasing her first novel in the new year and you should check out samples on her website.

As I mentioned earlier we’re planning to have Fera return next week, with regular updates resuming then – and a big celebration for the 5th anniversary on January 12th. We’ll have more details closer to the date but we’re happy to take your suggestions if you’d like to get in touch.

I’ll also be adding badges, wallpapers, digital sketch books, and more to the angelKat shop as well as a lot of new art prints and t-shirt designs so remember to keep checking back. We’ll post a weekly update here letting you know what’s happening. This blog will soon have weekly reviews and articles, we’re currently drawing up the schedule and hope to bring you even more content in 2014! One of those weekly updates will be an artist showcase – so if you’re an artist/writer feel free to let us know if you’d like to get involved and have a mini-interview. We’re already approaching some of our favourite artists and our good friends from the UK convention circuit.

Speaking of conventions, we’re waiting on confirmation for our event schedule next year, but we’ve already been invited back to Sunny Con as guests, and plan to be at Newcastle Film and Comic Con, MCM Comic Cons (London, Scotland, and Manchester at least with Belfast being a strong possibility), and London Film and Comic Con who have recently announced Stan Lee as a guest.

Also, as I say every year – if you come to a convention in cosplay as one of my characters seek out my table and I’ll give you a free item, sketch, discount, or digital comic subscription (at my discretion).

Thanks From All Of Us!

A big thank you to all of you this year, and for the last (almost) five years. You’ve all been great, whether you’ve supported us as readers, fellow creators, shown up at our table at conventions, or simply came back to read our comics time and time again. You’re why we do this, and your support means a lot to us. You’re why we can say that our comics were long listed at the British Comic Awards earlier this year for “Best Comic” – it doesn’t matter to us that we didn’t win or get into the final nominations, it’s that it means one of you guys put our names/comics forward. And that’s amazing by any stretch of the imagination. So thank you, and I just hope that we can create even more and better content for you in 2014!

Until next time…
Davy
